Clinical Neuropsychotherapy Workshop with Roger Mysliwiec

28/07/2017 @ 9:00 am - 4:30 pm

Clinical Neuropsychotherapy Workshop

Clinical neuropsychotherapy is an approach to psychotherapy based on contemporary neuroscience, integrating findings of the fields of psychology, neuroscience and psychotherapy. In this workshop Roger will provide an introductory overview of key neurobiological principles and their clinical applications of psychotherapy for common clinical presentations such as anxiety, depression or trauma. He will highlight key principles like the importance of understanding the basic mechanisms of implicit and explicit learning, of avoidance and approach behaviour, and the implications of the needs for safety, control and pleasure maximisation and pain avoidance.

Roger will discuss in more depth the question of how change can be facilitated, the use of ‘top-down’ or ‘bottom-up’ approaches and how to support the process of neuroplasticity (ability to learn new behaviour) in order to enhance resilience.

Scientifically based clinical neuropsychotherapy is at the cutting edge of the field of psychotherapy. This workshop provides participants with a good understanding to translate its theory into pragmatic application for enhancing effective client change.

The workshop will be interactive with ample time for discussion. Please bring a brief case study for small group work (200 words).
