Last year there were 668 deaths to suicide in our country, and statistics show that it is on the increase. There is also more focus after the fact on the health practitioner’s responsibility and process.
In this seminar Dr Hedges will present the most recent research on the dynamics of suicide. He will review suicide in the light of psychological and psychodynamic theories and describe treatment approaches that are yeilding clinical as well as empirical results.
He will explain clinical practices that enable the health professional to provide effective help while maintaining some protection against the potential blame or questioning that can arise.
Dr Lawrence Hedges Ph.D., Psy.D. ABPP, is a psychologist- psychoanalyst in private practice in Orange, California. He specialises in the training and supervising of psychoanalysts, psychotherapists and other mental health professionals both individually and in groups on their most difficult cases. He has consulted or served as an expert witness on more than 400 complaints, many in the area of suicide. Dr Hedges is Founding Director of The Listening Perspectives Centre and an honorary member of the American Psychoanalytic Association.
He has authored 19 books, titles include:
