NZAP: Northern Branch
Who we are?
NZAP Northern Region Branch is an association of psychotherapists in the Auckland Region. It offers an opportunity for collegiality, professional development and sharing matters of mutual interest. We recognize and celebrate diversity and difference, holding dear the idea that psychotherapy is first and foremost about relationship with all its struggles and complexity. Visitors are welcome; simply make yourself known to one of the convenors.
Membership
We welcome psychotherapists, and students of psychotherapy. The branch is self funding, receiving no money from the national body. The branch has no direct representation on the NZAP governing council as national council members are elected at large. Membership of the branch costs $45 ($25 for students) for the calendar year.
Membership Entitlements
Annual branch membership fees cover branch expenses for monthly meetings, administration, membership panel, supervisors’ group etc.
Branch Meetings
The branch meets monthly on the 2nd Thursday of the month at 7.15pm at the Parnell Community Centre, 545 Parnell Rise, Parnell. Meetings are normally upstairs in the Hobson Room in the Jubilee Building. There is limited off-street parking in spaces marked ‘Jubilee’ behind the building.
Business meeting
The first part of the meeting is devoted to branch business. The meetings are chaired by the two branch convenors. The branch attempts to make decisions by consensus, as much as possible.
There is no separate executive or committee meeting so all members are welcome to raise or talk to any matters of concern. If you wish to have something added to the agenda contact one of the convenors in advance so time can be allotted for this. The meetings are also an opportunity to sharing information of mutual interest such as needing or offering room space, upcoming events etc.
Presentations & discussions
The second part of the meeting is generally either a clinical presentation or a discussion on some matter pertinent to the life of the psychotherapeutic community.
Closing
At the end of each meeting there is an opportunity for a member to close the meeting by way of words, poem, song etc. Members can approach one of the conveyors if they would like to offer a closing.
A Cappella-Lite
The minutes of the branch meeting are distributed by email and referred to as A Capella-Lite. This includes a brief summary of the business meeting and all the notices of general interest tabled at the branch meeting. There is no charge for these notices.
Meeting notification
Meeting notifications and other announcements are emailed out from time to time. Both A Capella-Lite and the other announcements are circulated widely.
Sub-Sections
The branch also incorporates a number of sub-sections.
Supervisors’ Group
The Supervisors’ Group is a peer group for supervisors. It also has a role overseeing the progression of provisional members to full membership. It is open to branch members who do supervisory work. It meets both as small local groups and collectively. Contact the convenor for more details.
