Original Description of the Conference

Greetings and Nga Mihi Tino Nui from your 2012 Conference Committee. On behalf of the NZAP Wellington Branch and in the spirit of partnership, protection and participation we invite you to join us at the NZAP Conference. The Conference venue is Te Puni Centre, Victoria University, Whanga nui a Tara/Wellington.

Conference will open to participants at 5.00 pm at Te Puni Centre, Victoria University, Wellington, Thursday February 9th, 2012. Mihi whakatau to formally open conference will be at 8 am Friday 10th, and we will close with Poroporoake at 1pm on Sunday 12th February.

The conference theme is Tona Kanohi or The Face of the Other, based on the experience of the encounter with the “other,” who is not me.

We have two Keynote Speakers:

  1. Our first key-note speaker is Dr Tess Moeke-Maxwell, PhD, B Soc Sci (1st Hons), MNZAC, ACC Reg. (Ngai Tai ki Umupuia, Ngati Porou, Ngati Pukeko)
    HRC Research Fellow Maori and Psychology Research Unit, School of Psychology, Waikato University.
    Dr Moeke-Maxwell’s keynote address is titled “The face at the end of the road: exploring Maori identity and the interface between life and death”.
  2. Our second key-note speaker is Dr. Donna M. Orange, PhD, PsyD, Faculty and Supervising Analyst, Institute for the Psychoanalytic Study of Subjectivity, New York; Faculty and Training and Supervising Analyst, Istituto di Specializzizione in Psicologia psicoanalitica del se e psicoanalisi relazionale, Roma. She is in private practice in New York City and Highland Park, New Jersey. Donna is a relational psychoanalyst, teacher, speaker and author. We are delighted she is able to be with us in February. Dr Orange’s keynote address is titled, “Clinical hospitality: welcoming the face of the devastated other.”

Accommodation is available at Te Puni Centre, Victoria University. A programme for children will be organised.

The Pre-Conference Workshop is hosted by Te Tiriti and Bicultural Advisory Committee of NZAP.
