Vacancy: ACC Counsellors, Therapists and Psychologists, Wellington Region

Mosaic is a charitable trust located in Wellington. Our funding comes from a variety of sources, including Ministry contracts, grants and donations. We are reliant upon this funding to be able to provide a free service to males in the greater Wellington region. There are three arms to the agency – peer support service, the crisis response service and the counselling service.

We have contracts for peer support with the Ministry of Social Development to provide a peer support services to males (and their intimate others such as partners or parents) affected by sexual harm. Peer support is provided both individually and in groups by peer support counsellors. Peer support can include elements of social work.

The Crisis Response team provides a 24/7 crisis response service for all male victims of sexual violence within the greater Wellington region. The team consists of both day staff and after-hours staff, to ensure that support is available to those who need it around the clock. Currently all Crisis support staff are volunteers. This is a unique service, and we are the only specialist agency to provide this to males within the greater Wellington region. We are a rapidly growing charity and we now are looking to add more counsellors, psychologists, and therapists to our small team. The team needs to be a diverse group of with a wide range of skills as males present from complex backgrounds. Some of our currently engaged counsellors are ACC registered and provide counselling for people affected by sexual harm. Our counsellors also provide counselling for other issues including abuse suffered in child hood and male victims of intimate partner violence.

Job tasks and responsibilities

The counselling roles are for ACC sensitive claims counsellors, therapists and psychologists working with male survivors of sexual assault and abuse. Initially, you would help us complete the setup of our counselling practice and to enable us to register for ACC supplier status. You will then be a self-employed contractor with Mosaic as the Supplier and you will be a Provider.

Once set up, you would provide services to our clients direct from Mosaic’s offices located in either Newtown, Porirua, Hutt Valley or Masterton. Mosaic will provide you with free office space and take a small percentage from each counselling session. Hours of work will be casual initially by arrangement.

Skills and experience

  • A demonstrated understanding of the dynamics impacting on people affected by sexual violence and other trauma
  • Counselling/therapy experience supporting clients who have experienced sexual assault/abuse
  • You will be personable with the ability to work as part of a team
  • Full membership of a governing body e.g. NZCCA, NZAC
  • Minimum of 2-5 years’ experience as a counsellor
  • Professional boundaries and best practice are expected
  • A demonstrated commitment to the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi
  • You will also be required to undergo a police vetting check
  • If you are also a survivor of sexual abuse you may be interested in training as a peer support worker
